Peer Critique for Yajing
Voice/tone: The overall tone of the story when I read it was calm.
Hearing the names “Miss Chang” and “Liu” I would get a sense of
calmness, so as I continued reading I felt relaxed. It also made me
read the story slowly, to take in every word written.
Audience: This story isn’t really targeted towards a specific group of
people, but I would think people that are into love novels and stories
would like it better than others.
Evidence: I saw a few examples that would support the story, but I
would have liked it if maybe you described the settings more.
Obviously the story takes place in China in the 20s, and as us not
knowing about that time era, it would have been nice if us as the
reader, got images in our head as we read the descriptions and styles
of the characters surroundings.
Meaning: I was a little unsure of the moral of the story, but as I
read it over again I understood it. It needs more emphasis.
Structure: Overall it had its main components which consisted of a
beginning, middle, and ending. I think the structure was very well
composed.
Organization: The organization was well. A little confusing that might
need some tweaking, I would suggest a stronger conclusion, emphasis on
the moral of the story.
Overall thought: I found the story interesting. I liked that that the
story took place somewhere else and in a different time period. I just
think it needs some tweaking in the conclusion, but overall I liked
it.
